Colt McCoy

Another game, another convincing victory. While Texas has only played one team likely to make a bowl (Texas Tech) they continue to roll. And while Colt McCoy isn't racking up the TDs, his team is lighting up the scoreboard.

Texas rolled a completely overmatched UTEP team 64-7, including a 47-7 lead at halftime. While Colt did throw an interception and that interception was the lone points for UTEP as they returned it for a TD, Colt had his best game of the season. He threw for 286 yards, 3 TDs, that 1 INT, but most impressively he completed 28 of 35 passes, an 80% completion percentage for the game. In a game like this where Texas dominates the first half, it's clear that getting Colt stats is not the teams first priority. With a questionable rushing attack, Texas is trying to find its running back since right now they are relying on RB by committee. Last season Colt McCoy was their leading passer and rusher and that is something that Mack Brown emphasized before the season that he did not want a repeat of. Also with the recent injuries to Sam Bradford and Tim Tebow (with his team up 31-7 and no question they would win) Brown did not want to put Colt in passing situations or play him longer than he had to in the second half. Ultimately, Colt McCoy has done basically what was expected of him thus far. Coming into the year everyone knew they had a very talented team and would likely not face a challenge until that October 17th showdown against OU. Colt and the Longhorns have a bye this week and then play Colorado October 10th, a team that they handled 38-14 last year and a team that also has dropped early season games to Colorado State and Toledo. This should present another cream puff game for Colt before he faces that aggressive, athletic OU defense at the Texas State Fair on October 17th.
