His game makes it look like he’s not even trying. His numbers tell a different story. The resurgence of the U this year and potential return to prominence has been one of the biggest stories of this young season. And much of this success including back to back victories over ranked teams (Florida State and Georgia Tech) is attributed to the brilliant play of sophomore QB Jacory Harris.
Before a few years ago the phrase “sophomore QB” would have eliminated Jacory immediately from Heisman contention. However with the recent crowning of both Sam Bradford and Tim Tebow as sophomores, the precedent has been set. Through only two games, Jacory has been able to put together great numbers (656 passing yards, 69.5% completion, 5 TDs, 2 INTs and 1 rushing TD) especially considering both his opponents were ranked in the top 20. He’ll certainly have a chance to make his case even stronger within the coming weeks. With upcoming games against Virginia Tech and Oklahoma, the schedule doesn’t get any easier. But it also gives Jacory two more chances to send a message that the U is back, and that he’s the next in a line of great Miami QBs. Will that result in finding Jacory in New York? We can only hope so as he promised on a local radio show to pick out his fro, wear a bright pink suit and carry around a diamond-plated goblet if invited to the Heisman ceremony.
