Colt "45 and 2 zig zags" McCoy

Another game, another win, another high completion percentage and another interception. Colt McCoy has been the model of consistency this year, doing enough for his team to win, and not making the mistake that makes his team lose. While he isn't getting the kind of attention he was last year, he is still putting up good to great numbers and his team keeps winning.

A lot of the problems with Colt's Heisman hype this year is due to the insane numbers he put up last year and the sky high expectations that were set for this team this year. Yet they still haven't lost, and he still hasn't put up a total stinker on par with Tebow.

The two weeks ago Colt McCoy has was less than stellar. Against OU he certainly didn't win the game for his team with a completion percentage barely over 50% and an interception. Against Missouri he put up a pretty ridiculous completion percentage (83.9% 26/31) and also was able to score 3 TDs, yet again he threw an interception which he's had at least one of in every game. However, he showed flashes of the accuracy and composure that led him to New York last year.

The key to Colt's Heisman status is the hope that Texas continues to win. With a big game against Oklahoma State Saturday night he can put himself in the forefront of the race. No one else is grabbing the reins. Jimmy has had an amazing statistical season so far and would be my favorite but he wasn't blessed to be on a team with defensive talent on par with Texas and thus, Notre Dame isn't undefeated. Tebow is playing on a team with more talent but yet has put up average to bad numbers in recent weeks and Florida has, like Texas, looked less than dominant. Ingram is intriguing but hasn't put up the kind of numbers necessary to win as a sophomore with no preseason hype.

Either Alabama or Florida have to lose, so one of Ingram or Tebow may have their credentials diminished with that loss. Ultimately I feel McCoy and Clausen are the two most likely candidates to win the award at this point. However, as we know, every week changes the season (thanks ABC Saturday night football) but at this point, McCoy is in good shape.
