We're dropping Pike (injured) and Suh (great performance with 2 blocked kicks, but he needed a lot of momentum to have a shot - back to back losses hurts).
So this week's Weekend Wrap-up is brought to you by Radiohead, the band. I got into a conversation with my friend Tom over which of today's bands from the general rock scene will be remembered thirty years from now. My picks? Radiohead, Coldplay, U2, Red Hot Chili Peppers, and the Foo Fighters. Those are my five. Leaving out U2, which the previous generation could certainly claim, I'd add Beck. Anyway, on to football...
The Heisman Race saw a real running back quickly assert himself as a potential winner. I give you Mark Ingram of Alabama!
So where do Tebow, McCoy, Clausen, and Ingram stand now?
Clausen and the #26 Fighting Irish sought to bounce back after narrowly losing to USC last week. Boston College came to town and the game once again came down to the last couple plays. Jimmy in the first half was, frankly off. In part I blame a running game that ignored the back succeeding (Allen) in favor of one who ended up averaging 1.3 YPC. The Irish would end up with a 33% third-down conversion rate while winning an extremely boring game. Jimmy had a great second half, completing 67% of his passes, while throwing for two more touchdowns, no picks, and 246 yards.
Tebow led the Gators to a 29-19 victory mainly on the ground. He had 127 passing and 88 rushing yards with one touchdown on the ground. However, his two picks nearly handed Mississippi State the game - both were returned for touchdowns (by the same player). Tebow now has almost half as many passing yards and passing touchdowns as Clausen with double the number of interceptions. Fun Fact.
Speaking of interceptions, McCoy continued his streak of games with a pick by throwing one against an awful Missouri team. Texas easily overwhelmed the Tigers, with McCoy throwing for 269 yards and 3 touchdowns.
Mark Ingram and Alabama squeaked by Tennessee, saved by a block field goal attempt - 12-10. He put up 96 yards against a touch defense - but a Heisman candidate should put up bigger numbers in a big team.
So here's my 4.
1. Clausen (2050 yards, 16 touchdowns, 2 picks)
2. Tebow (1159 yards, 8 touchdowns, 4 picks // 466 rushing yards, 6 touchdowns)
3. McCoy (1806 yards, 14 touchdowns, 8 picks)
4. Ingram (1001 yards, 8 touchdowns, 0 fumbles // 186 yards receiving, 3 touchdowns)
