This week's weekend recap brought to you by Fall Break...we're off school for the week and won't be bringing you as much coverage until the end of the weekend...
It was an exciting weekend in college football, with many great games, if you like em' close.
Let's take a look at what everyone did...
Tim Tebow and the Gators barely avoided a loss to unranked Arkansas at home this past weekend. He ended up passing for a season-high 255 yards with a 65% completion rate and one touchdown. He also added 69 yards on the ground. However, Florida, although #1 in the BCS, fell out of the top spot for the first time, as AP voters found Alabama more worthy following their 14 point win over South Carolina. Tebow's candidacy for Heisman rests largely on Florida's title hopes - a loss would put his numbers in the light of day - average at best.
Colt McCoy and the Texans won over Oklahoma in the Red River Shootout. Though a shootout it wasn't - as McCoy threw for only 127 yards, 1 TD, and 1 INT. Like Tebow, McCoy's hopes rest more on his legacy and undefeated leadership, than raw stats. McCoy has an INT in every game this season (7 total), while seeing his completion percentage drop to 70%.
Jimmy Clausen nearly led the Fighting Irish to an upset victory over USC at home. He threw for 260 yards and 2 TDs, the first passing touchdowns against the Trojan defense all year. However, his completion percentage of 56% (24-43) was a season low. Most would agree that despite failing on the final drive to bring the Irish to within a point of victory, Clausen played well enough for the Irish against a defense loaded with future NFLers.
Ndamukong Suh, a player rising on many Heisman watch-lists, failed to make a significant impact as the Cornhuskers lost badly at home to Texas Tech. 4 Tackles in a 31-10 loss ends the long-shot's hopes. Suh joins other wannabes like Jacory Harris, Jahvid Best, and Sam Bradford on the trash-heap of Heisman hopes.
The Race increasingly looks like a three-man contest between two quarterbacks better at leading teams to victories, and one who has better stats. However, with none of the three dominating this weekend, future games will decide who's name is called in New York. Oh and the season is half-way over.
Enjoy your week, we'll enjoy ours in Disney World and can't promise much coverage from our vacation getaway. See you on Friday/Saturday.
My board:
1. Clausen
2. Tebow
3. McCoy
